Every year I do a 100 paintings challenge.
What I love about Art and this challenge is that it pushes you to evolve. Your style will expand and you will grow at the same time.
I do this for myself and for the joy of creating. This way I have no stress and no expectations.
So I would like to share with you a few ideas if you don't know how to start. Here is my process:
Create 5 series of paintings that in total will make 100 paintings.
Find a theme for each serie!
Give a name to each serie. It will be a serie of 20 paintings x 5
I love to create small paintings. If you find this project overwhelming, you can do it on paper instead of on canvas.
The purpose is to enjoy the creative process, discover new ways to lay down paint, make your process evolve...
These days I have been creating a lot of watercolors. Some paintings are very loose and simple and some took me more time and therefore more detailed.
During this process, it sparked new ideas in my head. The more I painted, the more I felt inspired... It is often this way that I find new projects to create later on canvas.
Painting Plein Air
Ever since I started this challenge, it changed my way of traveling and living. I always take with me my little watercolor set. A few pastels and paper.
When I go to a café in Bordeaux, I enjoy drinking my coffee and look at people walking in the city: the view is always inspiring. I am lucky to live in a place where art is everywhere.
Finally you can also go further and create a serie on canvas. Be like Claude Monet and embark yourself on an amazing project that might take you years but in the end it will be probably an amazing experience.
I like Claude Monet's Nymphea serie of course but also thr Cathedral de Rouen serie. Because he decided to have his studio just near the Cathedral and so he could work on his project I imagine everyday.
A new day, a new light, a new beginning.
I hope this inspires you to create and do what you love. That's to me the most important and main purpose of this challenge.
And if you have created 30 paintings instead of 100, it is still a beautiful experience for your art journey.
